Website Setup
Setting up your website
This page will help you set up your website on
JVDS's servers and publish your web pages. If you need help
on any aspect of this or have any comments, please email
support@jvds.com.
Setting up your domain
When it comes to hosting your domain on JVDS you have a couple of
choices. We can either host all of your domain's functions (email, webspace, etc.)
or each service individually. If you wish for us to host your domain completely,
the first thing you have to do is move your domain onto our DNS (Domain Name System) servers.
DNS Server Setup
To make sure that you don't lose any e-mail or similar, it is recommended that we setup our
systems ready to receive your domain before starting the transfer. To do this, email support@jvds.com. Please include your username and the domains you would like to be set up. We will then set this up and send you a confirmation e-mail when your request has been facilitated. To update the DNS
servers on the domains, you will need to contact your registrar. If you don't know who this is,
ask us and we can find out for you.
Your registrar will ask you what new nameservers you wish to change to. The nameservers you will have to use are:
ns1.65535.net - 216.17.104.29
ns2.65535.net - 65.214.160.50
ns3.65535.net - 212.13.198.96
It takes between 24-48 hours for these changes to take effect so please be patient.
If you wish for us to just host your website or similar please email support@jvds.com and we will inform you which entries you need to add to your existing DNS servers.
Uploading your website
For each domain you host with us, we setup an access-log and directory in your home directory. For example, if you had the
username johnsmith and have the domain johnsmith.com, you will also see a public_html directory which is useful for previewing your site:
e.g.
| johnsmith@linux1.65535.net:~$ ls -l | ||||||||
| -rw-r--r-- | 1 | johnsmith | users | 0 | Mar 10 11:28 | access-log.johnsmith.com | ||
| drwxr-xr-x | 2 | johnsmith | users | 1024 | Mar 10 11:27 | johnsmith.com | ||
| drwxr-xr-x | 2 | johnsmith | users | 1024 | Mar 10 11:27 | public_html | ||
To publish the website: johnsmith.com, you should FTP your files into the johnsmith.com directory. Your site will then
be immediately available at www.johnsmith.com. You can also put a website at http://server-name.65535.net/~username. To do this
, upload your files to the public_html directory. This is handy to have as it allows you to view
your site before actually publishing it.
